8SUMMARY
9 *iccf* *ICCF*
10Vim is Charityware. You can use and copy it as much as you like, but you are
11encouraged to make a donation for needy children in Uganda. Please see |kcc|
12below or visit the ICCF web site, available at these URLs:
13
14 http://iccf-holland.org/
15 http://www.vim.org/iccf/
16
17You can also sponsor the development of Vim. Vim sponsors can vote for
18features. See |sponsor|.
19
20The Open Publication License applies to the Vim documentation, see
21|manual-copyright|.
22
23=== begin of license ===
24
25VIM LICENSE
26
27I) There are no restrictions on distributing unmodified copies of Vim except
28 that they must include this license text. You can also distribute
29 unmodified parts of Vim, likewise unrestricted except that they must
30 include this license text. You are also allowed to include executables
31 that you made from the unmodified Vim sources, plus your own usage
32 examples and Vim scripts.
33
34II) It is allowed to distribute a modified (or extended) version of Vim,
35 including executables and/or source code, when the following four
36 conditions are met:
37 1) This license text must be included unmodified.
38 2) The modified Vim must be distributed in one of the following five ways:
39 a) If you make changes to Vim yourself, you must clearly describe in
40 the distribution how to contact you. When the maintainer asks you
41 (in any way) for a copy of the modified Vim you distributed, you
42 must make your changes, including source code, available to the
43 maintainer without fee. The maintainer reserves the right to
44 include your changes in the official version of Vim. What the
45 maintainer will do with your changes and under what license they
46 will be distributed is negotiable. If there has been no negotiation
47 then this license, or a later version, also applies to your changes.
48 The current maintainer is Bram Moolenaar <Bram@vim.org>. If this
49 changes it will be announced in appropriate places (most likely
50 vim.sf.net, www.vim.org and/or comp.editors). When it is completely
51 impossible to contact the maintainer, the obligation to send him
52 your changes ceases. Once the maintainer has confirmed that he has
53 received your changes they will not have to be sent again.
54 b) If you have received a modified Vim that was distributed as
55 mentioned under a) you are allowed to further distribute it
56 unmodified, as mentioned at I). If you make additional changes the
57 text under a) applies to those changes.
58 c) Provide all the changes, including source code, with every copy of
59 the modified Vim you distribute. This may be done in the form of a
60 context diff. You can choose what license to use for new code you
61 add. The changes and their license must not restrict others from
62 making their own changes to the official version of Vim.
63 d) When you have a modified Vim which includes changes as mentioned
64 under c), you can distribute it without the source code for the
65 changes if the following three conditions are met:
66 - The license that applies to the changes permits you to distribute
67 the changes to the Vim maintainer without fee or restriction, and
68 permits the Vim maintainer to include the changes in the official
69 version of Vim without fee or restriction.
70 - You keep the changes for at least three years after last
71 distributing the corresponding modified Vim. When the maintainer
72 or someone who you distributed the modified Vim to asks you (in
73 any way) for the changes within this period, you must make them
74 available to him.
75 - You clearly describe in the distribution how to contact you. This
76 contact information must remain valid for at least three years
77 after last distributing the corresponding modified Vim, or as long
78 as possible.
79 e) When the GNU General Public License (GPL) applies to the changes,
80 you can distribute the modified Vim under the GNU GPL version 2 or
81 any later version.
82 3) A message must be added, at least in the output of the ":version"
83 command and in the intro screen, such that the user of the modified Vim
84 is able to see that it was modified. When distributing as mentioned
85 under 2)e) adding the message is only required for as far as this does
86 not conflict with the license used for the changes.
87 4) The contact information as required under 2)a) and 2)d) must not be
88 removed or changed, except that the person himself can make
89 corrections.
90
91III) If you distribute a modified version of Vim, you are encouraged to use
92 the Vim license for your changes and make them available to the
93 maintainer, including the source code. The preferred way to do this is
94 by e-mail or by uploading the files to a server and e-mailing the URL.
95 If the number of changes is small (e.g., a modified Makefile) e-mailing a
96 context diff will do. The e-mail address to be used is
97 <maintainer@vim.org>
98
99IV) It is not allowed to remove this license from the distribution of the Vim
100 sources, parts of it or from a modified version. You may use this
101 license for previous Vim releases instead of the license that they came
102 with, at your option.
103
104=== end of license ===
105
106Note:
107
108- If you are happy with Vim, please express that by reading the rest of this
109 file and consider helping needy children in Uganda.
110
111- If you want to support further Vim development consider becoming a
112 |sponsor|.
113
114- According to Richard Stallman the Vim license is GNU GPL compatible.
115 A few minor changes have been made since he checked it, but that should not
116 make a difference.
117
118- If you link Vim with a library that goes under the GNU GPL, this limits
119 further distribution to the GNU GPL. Also when you didn't actually change
120 anything in Vim.
121
122- Once a change is included that goes under the GNU GPL, this forces all
123 further changes to also be made under the GNU GPL or a compatible license.
124
125- If you distribute a modified version of Vim, you can include your name and
126 contact information with the "--with-modified-by" configure argument or the
127 MODIFIED_BY define.
128
129==============================================================================
130Kibaale Children's Centre *kcc*
131
132Kibaale Children's Centre (KCC) is located in Kibaale, a small town in the
133south of Uganda, near Tanzania, in East Africa. The area is known as Rakai
134District. The population is mostly farmers. Although people are poor, there
135is enough food. But this district is suffering from AIDS more than any other
136part of the world. Some say that it started there. Estimations are that 10
137to 30% of the Ugandans are infected with HIV. Because parents die, there are
138many orphans. In this district about 60,000 children have lost one or both
139parents, out of a population of 350,000. And this is still continuing.
140
141The children need a lot of help. The KCC is working hard to provide the needy
142with food, medical care and education. Food and medical care to keep them
143healthy now, and education so that they can take care of themselves in the
144future. KCC works on a Christian base, but help is given to children of any
145religion.
146
147The key to solving the problems in this area is education. This has been
148neglected in the past years with president Idi Amin and the following civil
149wars. Now that the government is stable again, the children and parents have
150to learn how to take care of themselves and how to avoid infections. There is
151also help for people who are ill and hungry, but the primary goal is to
152prevent people from getting ill and to teach them how to grow healthy food.
153
154Most of the orphans are living in an extended family. An uncle or older
155sister is taking care of them. Because these families are big and the income
156(if any) is low, a child is lucky if it gets healthy food. Clothes, medical
157care and schooling is beyond its reach. To help these needy children, a
158sponsorship program was put into place. A child can be financially adopted.
159For a few dollars a month KCC sees to it that the child gets indispensable
160items, is healthy, goes to school and KCC takes care of anything else that
161needs to be done for the child and the family that supports it.
162
163Besides helping the child directly, the environment where the child grows up
164needs to be improved. KCC helps schools to improve their teaching methods.
165There is a demonstration school at the centre and teacher trainings are given.
166Health workers are being trained, hygiene education is carried out and
167households are stimulated to build a proper latrine. I helped setting up a
168production site for cement slabs. These are used to build a good latrine.
169They are sold below cost price.
170
171There is a small clinic at the project, which provides children and their
172family with medical help. When needed, transport to a hospital is offered.
173Immunization programs are carried out and help is provided when an epidemic is
174breaking out (measles and cholera have been a problem).
Bram Moolenaar05159a02005-02-26 23:04:13 +0000175 *donate*
Bram Moolenaar071d4272004-06-13 20:20:40 +0000176Summer 1994 to summer 1995 I spent a whole year at the centre, working as a
177volunteer. I have helped to expand the centre and worked in the area of water
178and sanitation. I learned that the help that the KCC provides really helps.
179Now that I'm back in Holland, I would like to continue supporting KCC. To do
180this I'm raising funds and organizing the sponsorship program. Please
181consider one of these possibilities:
182
1831. Sponsor a child in primary school: 17 euro a month (or more).
1842. Sponsor a child in secondary school: 25 euro a month (or more).
1853. Sponsor the clinic: Any amount a month or quarter
1864. A one-time donation
187
188Compared with other organizations that do child sponsorship the amounts are
189very low. This is because the money goes directly to the centre. Less than
1905% is used for administration. This is possible because this is a small
191organization that works with volunteers. If you would like to sponsor a
192child, you should have the intention to do this for at least one year.
193
194How do you know that the money will be spent right? First of all you have my
195personal guarantee as the author of Vim. I trust the people that are working
196at the centre, I know them personally. Further more, the centre is
197co-sponsored and inspected by World Vision, Save the Children Fund and
198International Child Care Fund. The centre is visited about once a year to
199check the progress (at our own cost). I have visited the centre myself in
2001996, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003. The visit reports are on the ICCF web site.
201
202If you have any further questions, send me e-mail: <Bram@vim.org>.
